I’ve never been one of those women that religiously stick to one signature scent, you know the type, she is ridiculously elegant and wears some obscure fragrance that you’ve never heard of, but you can be assured it’s super exclusive and extremely expensive! I love the idea of finding ‘your scent’ and sticking to it throughout your life. My mum has always worn Estée Lauder Knowing. You probably won’t have heard of it, but that’s what she will be wearing for special occasions, dinners etc. until the end of her days.
I on the other hand am a fragrance floosey! I’ll buy whatever is new, whatever is a bargain at the airport, whatever some stunning girl sprays me with in Boots as I try to get to the toothpaste! You get the picture! I’m currently loving Honeymania by the Body Shop, it’s cheap and it’s perfect for the summer! I’ve also got an Ellie Sabb on the go for slightly more sophisticated summer BBQs!
However, you can still be a fragrance floosey and wear a signature scent at certain times in your life. Scent is so individual, it’s so personal and it conjures up such memories, far more than sight or touch. The best piece of advice I received when planning my wedding was to make sure I had a signature scent for the day. In the end my Husband and I ended up wearing his and hers Boss Orange fragrances. We wore these scents for the build up events, the day itself and our honeymoon. We subsequently wear them for anniversaries, or just to remember. We got married in July, so such a summery, fresh scent was perfect for our day. Whenever we wear our fragrances it reminds us of our beautiful day. Two years later we have the original bottles on the go still, such is the importance of remembering the day through fragrance.
Since then I’ve always worn a particular fragrance to go on holiday, so that I can always be reminded of wonderful times through fragrance. I highly recommend you try this if you don’t already! So for our week in Florida I wore Jo Malone English Pear and Freesia, for a week in Washington I wore Liz Earle number 15. I could go on! I always have a new scent, something special for each trip so that it is particular to that memory. It doesn’t have to be expensive, it just has to be different each time! It’s now a little tradition of mine to do this, one which I’ll probably do for the rest of my life!
Try it for your next trip and then relish revisiting that scent for when you need a boost, or just to remember. And if you are getting married, spend some time really searching for the perfect signature fragrance for you and your partner, it will be time well invested in such a simple thing. Xxx
