I’ve never been a great lipstick addict. I’ve had a few dalliances with gloss, but all that reapplying, and scrapping your hair out of the gloss on windy days! Well just meh!
I know statistically women who habitually wear lipstick earn more . . . I guess it’s part of presenting a polished professional look. So I’ve been having a bit of a rethink and have decided to make more of an effort in the old lipstick department!
My first choice was Bobbi Brown – natch! The first colour (used somewhat!) in the photo is number 13 Ballet Pink Sheer Lip Colour. Im on my original tube of this, having been recommended this at a Bobbi Brown country some time ago. I think for a more natural, subtle, yet polished look they generally recommend the sheer colours (be warned there are a lot to choose from). This one is also a classic with brides, because it is a seriously natural pretty pink. Like other reviewers I’m not so convinced there is anything sheer about these lipsticks! They are definitely full coverage, not dry and cakey, but full and moisturinsing. I wear Ballet Pink on your average days, maybe at work, shopping that kind of thing. I’m rubbish at reapplying (once it’s gone then there are bigger things in the world, right?!), which is pretty good at the sheer lip colours seem to last a reasonable time on moi. I will get better at reapplying I will!,
Next up I treated myself to this NEW 31 Pink Flush – I like new, makes it feel exclusive and cool doesn’t it? This one looked much bolder online and in person in the tube. Bobbi says it’s a medium tone pink, I’d say it is exactly that for my pale European complexion. The colour is quite close to my natural lip colour when applied, a little more girly pink (not Barbie). It’s super lovely, and a very wearable colour. It’s the same solid moisturising formulation, but the colour is a little more look at me, I’ve made an effort! It’s super pretty and a really nice contrast to my safe Ballet Pink.
The Sheer Colours retail at £19.50
Loves – ‘sheer’ makes me feel this is baby steps for can’t be bothered lipstick users like myself. Actually Bobbi Brown sheers pack a punch and this are very grown up pretty shades that seem to last quite a while!
Not so Loves – maybe that I can’t afford to buy more to experiment!
Overall – super pretty, can’t go wrong shades that last and last. If you can afford it you can go bold and daring, without looking scary!
